Just been having a bit of a think on the creation of backups in general. Going to make a general forum post, but as it's not specific to this post, it will be over at the CC general forum.

I was just about to ask - hoping there were some of our own archetypes for playtesting ;) Don't forget to use the CLass Pages for all of the archetypes available. I would love to see how some not in the PHB compare (esp ours but also from En5ider etc).

Yea I have several made up already and was going to do another couple, maybe using the new archetypes but may do a random selection just to cover a few bases.

Yes, that's right. I haven't seen it, but I'd be amazed if Shane hadn't created at least one backup, if not several. I thought it was Nicho playing the other dragonborn. Didn't last more than the one session, which would probably be why he never made it onto the PC page. I'll have to track down the character sheet and update the page for future reference.

I know my mem is bad, but I have read the journal a couple of times. So we actually lost a couple of PCs at the end there right? 1 is Shane's, so he has a spare PC. Was the other Nicko's? Sorry, there is no mention of him on the PC Page. Was it Nicko or Defa that played my PCs cousin. Apologies for my very bad player memory. In any case, are we right for PCs for this group? (I have a spare in the meantime).

Oh crap, for some reason I took that last line as we need to stop playing it 'for the moment'. Sorry. Yes, we'll continue this discussion later when we can ;)

Yeah, I want to play out the adventure. Just asking to hold off on discussing this particular encounter until we've finished it. I think I agree with you, but I'm pretty sure that if we get into this now it will lead to me giving away some other info in advance.

I don't want to put a pin in it. I want to play it out. I am just wondering whether there was anything for a group that chose to actually HELP the citizens. Most criticism I have read is pitting the PCs vs a dragon; not the fact that they were supposed to piss-off to the safety of the keep leaving the citizens to be slaughtered.

Honestly, I don't think you're wrong at all. This is hands down the biggest criticism of the adventure that I've read on any forum (inc. a couple on BookFace) for a good reason… pretty much exactly the ones you've just stated.

However, given that we haven't finished the adventure yet (unless we want to pull the plug totally), we'll have to put a pin in this for the moment.

Re: Dragon Raid by blairosblairos, 16 Feb 2016 02:39

So I have stewed on this a while now. I have recently just posted this eg in a thread on ENWorld talking about what you don't like in a game. I did not say I would 'walk out' on a game for anything short of very bad behaviour from a fellow player, but did mention I did not like 'no choice' sort of situations.

Now this fight with the blue dragon certainly got some coverage over at ENWorld simply b/c it is such a powerful dragon vs low level party. I have no qualms about this. I don't expect to win every fight. It is a dragon. Don't fight it openly.

The part I did not like about the situation was we were clearly 'meant' to go to the keep. So, we, the heroes run for the keep whilst the dragon and cultists and kobolds continue to kill all of the common townsfolk? I really did not get that, even though it was strongly hinted we needed to go to the keep several times?

I know my PC was never going to do that when more commoners kept appearing in trouble. It is situations like this where I get a little peeved as a player.

Maybe Blair can shed some light on how the module approaches this, but from what we went through I am suggesting there is very little there. Blair ended up sending the 'force' to us. I was wondering whether anything like that was in the module. Surely if the PCs are making a stand then the local authorities may want to help? Anyway, I just felt frustrated that there seemed to be one obvious choice and we were 'dumb' for not taking it, when that is exactly what my PC was about. Not leaving common folk to die when he can help. Seemed odd.

Can you double check that you uploaded them? I just tried to download & print for you while I'm at work, but it's only a level 2 version. (and the Havilarr sheet is only level 1).

Just finished updating Havilar to 3rd level. Well I redid him on new PC Sheet and then had to type out all the new 2nd level spells. That took a while. He had better not die straight away. ;)

Worse is when you sit on a big secret for ages and then the party either completely circumvents your cunning plan, decides to go a different direction entirely or … has to start a new campaign for various gruesome reasons. :)

Re: campaign discussion by blairosblairos, 26 Oct 2015 04:03

Called it ;) And even worse, is you have to wait to reveal all these cool 'behind the scenes' things in your game. It is really hard not to share sometimes… but as Blair said, you need to. Keeps us players in suspense and that is a big part of any adventure game :)

Re: campaign discussion by ConnorsConnors, 26 Oct 2015 01:39

Sorry Nicko, I actually thought we were going to play this again at our next session and that you'd already have your answer. (Then we didn't and I honestly completely forgot to to give you a reply :( ).

Sad fact is that I gotta wear the DM hat and can't tell you at this point. All I can say is that you guys should know by now that I love trying to set up the party with nemeses and recurring villains. :)

Unfortunately Blair doesn't hang out on these sites much Nicko. I have been trying to stay out of this but also awaiting an answer (which I am sure he can't really give but probably wants to - the perks of GMing ;)).

Might have to ask on Facebook, phone etc.

Re: campaign discussion by ConnorsConnors, 22 Oct 2015 23:02

thanks blair, i enjoyed the weekend

now that we have left the caves (kobold lair) and do not have a reason to return and as we have just come across a dragon attacking the township. just a question i was thinking about.

the priest/acolite that ran away in the caves, where did he run too?, we searched he place thoroughly and there was no sign of him, did he use one of the interconnecting tunnels to move around behind us and made it to the entrance where he fled? i assume this was the case, are you able/willing to offer any insights into how he got away? what he did when we did not pursue him after the big fight, we chose to do a short rest then went looking for him, by that time he was long gone?
